About Us

Welcome to our native plant nursery located near Guelph, Ontario.  We proudly offer native trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and grasses grown from our hand-collected Ontario-sourced seeds. We offer organic, non-GMO, non-hybridized high-quality native plants grown specifically to heal the fractured Ontario landscape and ecosystems.

Since 2007, we have been a family-run business dedicated to organic environmental sustainability. Climate change is driving our production processes based on current science.

Our History

We are, first and foremost, beekeepers. Bees and pollinators have always been a part of our life, as far back as we can remember.

We were establishing a home bee yard and wanted to increase the site's plant and tree diversity. With the Latin botanical name in hand, we went to our local nurseries and bought trees and shrubs. A large number of these trees and plants died within a few years.

The first harsh lesson we learned: a Latin, botanical name guarantees that you will receive that precise plant. The seed's origin is not indicated by its Latin name. A plant developed from seed harvested locally has a higher chance of surviving than one imported from beyond your growth zone or from the United States.

This is why we started the Bee Sweet Nature Company. It was next to impossible to find Carolinian or native stock from seed collected in our area at our local nurseries.

Our Philosophy

We collect all of our seeds by hand and cultivate all of our stock from them. The locations of all seed collection sites are marked. We do not buy any stock or seeds except for particular reintroduction projects. Of course, this means that stock availability varies drastically from year to year. Drought, cold spells, and cold springs all impact flowering and seed set.

Carolinian, endangered, or unusual larval pollinator plants make up a large portion of our inventory. These native species used to be a natural part of the landscape, and our goal is to restore their availability. By selling local, native stock, we hope to increase the biodiversity of the southern Ontario landscape.

Our plant stock catalogue is one-of-a-kind, and it will continue to evolve as we seek out new seed sources. We are attempting to raise original (non-planted) and ancient stock. We are preserving the genetic diversity of Ontario plants in this way.

We will understand only what we are taught'
