Our Philosophy on Growing Trees

GROWING TREES FOR A CHANGING CLIMATE

WIND ACTION ON TREES

In response to our rapid climate changes, we understand the importance of nurturing the growth of a more adapted tree. Trees and bushes will have to survive stronger winds and more dramatic weather fluctuation. By not staking our tree stock, we allow trees to adapt to wind load and stimuli. The trees aren’t completely straight, but they’re stronger and prepared for an uncertain future in the wind. To see the full story see our wind on trees story.

GROWING STRONGER TREES

Mycorrhizal Soil inoculation

Natural soil fungi are introduced into all of our stock, including trees, shrubs, vines, and wildflowers. Plants and fungi have natural symbiotic partnerships in which both thrive and live in harmony without using fertilizer. Plants become increasingly hardy and adaptable to our ever-changing climate. To see the full story see our fungi article.

Air pruning

This is the most recent advancement in science and technology.

GROWING DIVERSIFIED TREES

Assisted tree migration program

We’ve started our action plan and expanded our seed collection diversity, particularly in the south. We will now be able to provide species with blended provenances. We will extend our seed collection sites to provide the greatest genetic diversity possible with each passing season. To see the full story see our assisted tree migration articles.
